Indoor sessions due to take place today at Holyrood Sports Centre are unaffected, however we ask that you allow extra time for your journey and be aware of icy road conditions. Thank you.

Boots For Kenya
Boots For Kenya – Can You Help ?
Donations of old football boots, astro shoes, trainers etc are now being gladly accepted at the Queen’s Park Office during office hours or at the club shop on Saturday mornings from 9am until 12 noon.
From Paul Barnes, Scottish Football Partnership….
The Scottish Football Partnership are sending out an industrial container to the small village of Thigio, one hour from Nairobi in Kenya, to help support the Daughters of Charity, an organisation which cares for children in the area with desperate needs. Many of the children cared for by the charity are orphans and have lost their parents to HIV. Indeed many of the kids are HIV positive themselves. They have very little in life and often have no access to the most basic of needs such as food, water and shelter. The charity in Thigio is run by a British former PE teacher who has strived to give the children access to sports participation. Football is the most popular sport in Kenya and the charity have set up a small football club in Thigio which brings the children great pleasure. Their facilities are, as you might expect, seriously lacking though, and we were approached by the charity and asked to donate some kit. Through the relationship we have with a logistics company who we use to deliver SFP containerised changing rooms, we have been able to source an empty container and guaranteed shipment over to Kenya. Our plan is to fill this container with football kit and equipment and send it out to Thigio.
If you would like to donate some kit or equipment we would be most grateful. To date we have received many boxes and bin bags full of clothing, which is fantastic, but I’m now trying to look for donations of footwear. Very few of the kids in Thigio have proper footwear to allow them to play football and any donation at all from Scotland, would improve their enjoyment of the game immensely. The children who visit the charity range from aged 5 right up to aged 18 and beyond so any sizes of kit or footwear will make a real difference. Also, and I must stress this point, we are absolutely not looking for donations of brand new clothing or footwear. The SFP have set aside a budget which will allow us to buy new equipment nearer the time if there is a need for this.
Under 10′s Trip To Broadwood
By kind invitation of Clyde FC, our under 10 Community squad and under 10 Development team made the short trip to Broadwood on Saturday 10th September ’11. The boys enjoyed a couple of games against their Clyde counterparts. The games were very close and we saw some excellent footwork as well as some great goals. Well done to everyone!
Following the soccer seven games, we took our seats for the SFL Third Division clash between Clyde and Queen’s Park. On a bright sunny day we saw a smashing match which Queen’s won with two excellent goals from Jamie Longworth and Michael Daly. Queen’s played some great football which we all enjoyed. At half time, some of our boys took part in the 5 second challenge- the idea being
to score a goal within five seconds against the opposite goalkeeper. It was really exciting with Queen’s just edging it. A few pictures from the day can be seen here.
Ladies Share The Spoils
QUEEN’S PARK 2 – RAITH ROVERS 2
A share of the spoils once more this season as the Spiders saw a half time two goal lead clawed back by Raith.
With a slightly enhanced squad, Queen’s were concentrating on putting league points on the board with no cup competitions to cause distraction.
Whilst we welcomed the returns of Lloyd, McCluskey, Montoya and new arrival Livingstone the coaches were faced with some tough team selection problems when regular centre half starter Cameron was ruled out through illness at the 11th hour.
The team started positively making good use of the space and trying to hurt Raith on the wings. Jenni Condie got the Spiders off the mark with a well taken penalty. Shortly afterwards, McCluskey broke from deep releasing Baird who squared for Clapperton to finish.
As expected, Raith came back in the second half looking to impose themselves- which they did with a goal early on.
As well as this, Davies picked up an injury, causing Queen’s to lose a little of their composure.
Just when it looked as though we might hold on for a victory, Raith snatched an equalizer through a penalty awarded with four minutes left on the clock.
The coaches concluded that
“Although we are disappointed not to take full points today, further progress has been made and the team has shown improvement in many areas. We will work hard at training this week in preparation for our next match against Toryglen “.
Next game v Toryglen at Lesser Hampden, Sunday 11 September 1.30pm.
Community Football Sessions
You are only a new face once !
Come and play !
We offer weekly football sessions every Saturday morning for all ages and abilities. The cost for each session is £3.00, with the first session FREE. Please note that a contact/medical consent form must be completed prior to participating in our Community sessions. These can be obtained and completed prior to your first session. We ask that Old Firm colours are not worn at QP Community sessions. Thank you.
We endeavour to have children working in groups of the same age.
Under fives.
Our popular Spider Tots sessions take place-indoor- at Holyrood Sports Centre each Saturday morning from 10am until 11am. The sessions are open to children from age three. To take part all you need to bring with you is gym shoes, t-shirt and shorts, a non-fizzy drink and a smile. The children enjoy a football based session which includes fun games, aerobic activity and simple skill activities which help to develope motor skills, generic movement and physical literacy. To book a place please call us on 0141 632 1275 or email community@queensparkfc.co.uk. Please note: the parent or responsible adult of each child must be present for the duration of this session. Remember, the first session is free.
Age five and six.
Children of this age are asked to attend Holyrood Sports Centre from 9am until 10am. This busy session, as with the older age groups, focusses on a different coaching theme each week, designed to improve individual technique and give a simple insight to the game. Ranging from passing, shooting and so on, the coaches put the players through their paces before introducing small sided games giving the players the chance to express themselves.
Age 7-12 years.
Young players of this age are catered for at our Lesser Hampden training facility which is accessed from Somerville Drive. We offer two sessions for this group every Saturday; the session from 10am -11am concentrates on delivering a coaching theme which helps develop individual skill, with some game time included also. The session from 11am until 12 noon is purely a games session where the players can put into practise what they have learned in the first session.
Under 10 Community Team
We currently have an Under 10 initiative which offers children in this age group the chance to try out playing with a team. This group get together on Saturday mornings at Lesser Hampden from 11am – 12 noon, on Tuesdays from 5pm – 6pm (Lesser) and play Soccer Sevens at Toryglen Regional Football Centre on Sunday mornings. Involvement in the games is by rotation. Please register your interest by email, telephone or at the Community desk on Saturdays. Thank you. Cost is £3 per session.
Age 12-16 years (youths).
The youth players within the Community program are coached by a QP Youth coach who, once again, will work on the theme of that particular week. This is a 90 minute session which contains a mixture of fun drills, coaching and plenty of game time. Cost per session £5.
Goalkeepers
We offer an hour of goalkeeping coaching from 10am until 11am at Lesser Hampden. We work on simple technique and handling. On certain occasions we will involve the ‘keepers within the groups where they may benefit from taking part in shooting drills etc. If players have gloves this is helpful, but not imperative.
Adult session.
As with the youth session and depending on numbers- integrated with them, the adults enjoy a 90 minute work out filled with challenging drills, practices and games. This session has been popular with Mums and Dads whose children are working alongside at the same time on a different corner of our fabulous surface. Cost per session £5.
